Dr. Sanjiv Narayan Abbott is the director of electrophysiology research and the atrial fibrillation program at Stanford University. He further serves the school as a professor of medicine. His primary responsibilities involve the development of the Stanford Arrhythmia Center, where he and his staff examine potential bioengineering solutions to clinical arrhythmia issues. Dr. Sanjiv Narayan Abbott previously spent 13 years as director of electrophysiology with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Diego. During this time, he was also a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He has additional experience as professor of medicine in residence at UCLA.

Dr. Narayan studied medicine at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. He spent time at UCLA pursuing his doctoral degree in Neuroscience, before serving as faculty tutor in Quantitative Cardiology at MIT/Harvard from 1994-6 on the HST program.
